MBTI

The world’s most popular questionnaire for measuring personality Type

The MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator®) framework provides the basis for lifelong personal development, and improved organisational effectiveness.

MBTI Step I is a powerful, versatile personality type assessment that provides the foundations for a deep understanding of personal motivations and group interactions. It can be applied to multiple personal and business issues, and revisited over time as new challenges arise. By providing multiple quality-assured insights with a single questionnaire, the MBTI assessment's scalability and relevance to all organisational levels delivers a high return on investment.

The MBTI questionnaire sorts people into one of 16 different personality types.

The 16 MBTI personality types

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®) Step I is based on Carl Jung’s theory of psychological type. It indicates your personality preferences in four dimensions:

  • Where you focus your attention – Extraversion (E) or Introversion (I)
  • The way you take in information – Sensing (S) or INtuition (N)
  • How you make decisions – Thinking (T) or Feeling (F)
  • How you deal with the world – Judging (J) or Perceiving (P)

There are four letters that make up your personality type that can help you to understand yourself and your interactions with others. To find out what your MBTI personality type is you need to complete the MBTI questionnaire and take part in a feedback session from a qualified MBTI practitioner.

The Myers-Briggs assessment is far more than just a personality questionnaire. The theoretical framework of the MBTI assessment provides a common language for understanding and describing the interpersonal differences that define us as individuals.

The MBTI conceptual framework offers an easy-to-understand but sophisticated way of understanding personality differences.

It gives a wholly positive view, getting people on board so that they make genuine and lasting changes to their behaviour.

It highlights individual strengths and how to capitalise on them. It is a powerful application and problem-solving over a broad range of issues.

Mental Toughness?

Mental toughness is about how effectively individuals deal with stress, pressure and challenge. It describes the mindset that every person adopts in everything they do and is closely related to qualities such as character, resilience and grit. We can measure these qualities with the MTQ.

Research carried out under the direction of Professor Peter Clough has identified the four key components of MT. These are called the 4 Cs – Control, Commitment, Challenge and Confidence.

Most psychometrics focus on the measurement of behaviours (how we act) and attributes (how we feel) – the MTQ looks at how we think which is a key driver for the development of behaviour and attributes.

The MTQ48 & MTQPlus instruments, by AQR International, is a unique and innovative psychometric tool that measures and reports a person’s Mental Toughness. Where many psychometric tests aim to measure how we behave and act, the MTQ48 explores how we think. Understanding how we think is essential if we are to change and develop our behaviours; to respond differently – our thinking drives our behaviour. It’s an inside-out approach to change and development.

As qualified users of the MTQ48 & MTQPlus instrument, we administer and use the MTQ48 & MTQPlus to help your people to be more successful. The MTQ48 & MTQPlus can be used as a stand-alone development tool or part of wider learning and development programmes.
